I am so proud of my dance students.
My Big Brother Terry Wright
I started on my journey at the age of 5 years old wanting to be a performer and a all around great entertainer. I spent a lot of my childhood participating in various choirs and dance groups… doing what it takes to make my dream come true.
I met Terry Wright when I was 14 years old, I was just entering high school and had no idea what I was getting myself into. He took me under his wing at The Boys Choir of Harlem and showed me all I needed to know. Having him by my side helped me so much dealing with normal things teenagers go through such as family issues, self-esteem etc. He showed me how to be a man, how to carry myself with respect, integrity and most of all discipline. He even showed me some of the simple things in life, something so small as learning how to tie a tie.
Even though I had the love and support of my family with following my dreams he believed in me more then I believed in myself. Even my mom knew him as my second dad lol. I was that last person to be around him before he passed and the conversation we had, the text he sent me was just a stamp of approval that he would always be by my side guiding and protecting me in my journey.
I would be lying if I said I was ok without him being here, yes I feel lonely again just how I did as a child before I met him. But he handed me the torch to live on and be fearless, he taught me to speak my mind and to remember to make myself happy before anyone else.
It’s weird because it just feels like he went away for a little while and should be coming back soon. It’s been two years since he’s been gone and I miss him so much. He helped shape and mold me into the man I am today, and I owe it all to him. I will continue to carry on his legacy by inspiring the youth especially the young black men of our future.
I hope I’m making him proud, and I thank him for being there at the hardest time in my life when I needed him the most. He is my Guardian Angel.
